It wasn't the billion-dollar companies with unlimited budgets that had marketing figured out. In fact, they often struggled with the basics: tracking what's working, understanding their customers, and making data-driven decisions that actually moved the needle.
The irony? Small and mid-sized businesses were being told they needed those same massive budgets and complex systems to compete. But that's not true. They just needed someone who understood the sophisticated strategies without the enterprise bloat.
That's why I started Fern Glen Consulting.
My Background:
I've spent my career working with Fortune 500 companies across industries—financial services, retail, manufacturing, media, insurance—helping them navigate digital transformations, build omnichannel strategies, and actually understand what their marketing data was telling them.
I've worked for some of the largest digital agencies, publishers, and SaaS companies in the world. I've sat in C-suite strategy sessions, managed million-dollar campaigns, and led teams through complex marketing technology implementations.
But here's what I noticed: even companies with $50 million marketing budgets struggled with the fundamentals. They couldn't answer basic questions like "Which channel drives our best customers?" or "Is this campaign actually profitable?".
Meanwhile, small businesses with limited resources were being sold the same overcomplicated solutions—or worse, being ignored entirely because they couldn't afford six-figure agency retainers.
That didn't sit right with me.
You don't need a $10 million budget to understand your customers. You don't need a team of 20 people to run effective campaigns. You just need someone who's seen what works at scale and can translate it to your reality—your budget, your team, your goals.
